He served as the full time associate/worship pastor for eight years before accepting the position of Senior Pastor in April of 2015. Pastor Jay has a passion for God’s Word and for God’s glory to spread throughout the church to reach the world for Christ. His heart is for the spiritual growth of the church. Jay is currently attending Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary pursuing his Masters in Divinity.
As a young child, Danny met Jesus on a football field in his Northeast Texas hometown. He grew up as the middle child of his parents with an older brother and younger sister. Many Saturdays of his childhood he spent competing in horse shows and equestrian events across Southwest Arkansas. As a teenager, Danny was active in his church youth group where he was involved in skits, going to camps, and being with his friends. Sometime after graduating high school, Danny began to volunteer at a ranch where he could be involved with two of his passions, horses and special-needs children.
While attending the church in Northeast Texas, Danny began volunteering as the “youth guy” during the absence of an official youth minister. During this time, the church selected Danny to serve as a deacon of the congregation.
Then, while Danny’s job position was in the process of moving out of state, God provided Danny a job in Gainesville, Texas. The Sparks family moved to North Texas and soon began attending First Baptist Church Krum. They fell in love with the loving church congregation and became members. God has since blessed Danny with the privilege of serving as the youth minister here.
Danny found that he has a heart for teenagers. He relates to their youthfulness and enjoys just being around them, whether being silly or just listening to them. The teenagers tend to bring a playful joy to his life. He is passionate about seeing youth come to know Christ as their personal Savior, and he has a heart for seeing them grow in their relationship with Christ.
Danny also enjoys wearing overalls, driving big tractors, and fishing out of ponds. You can usually find him with his precious son, cute daughter, and beautiful wife.
Amanda Howland and Terri Talley
Children’s Ministry Co-Coordinators
Amanda has been a member of FBC Krum since 2009. All her life she has had a passion for children. She knew at a very early age she wanted to be in education and has taught for 13 years. God has used her passion in many areas of ministry such as teaching various children’s bible classes to vacation bible school and brought her to her current roll as co-director of the children’s ministry here at FBC Krum. She believes in building a firm foundation of faith for our children. As a mother of three she takes every opportunity to teach her own children about God’s amazing love. She and her husband Shane have been married for 14 years and even though they came from different family backgrounds they have come together in their love for Christ to build a family of faith.
Terri Talley has always loved working with children. Even from a young age, she served as a student helper in Vacation Bible School and in preschool Mission Friends at her home church in Mesquite, Texas. Upon graduating from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education, Terri taught nine years of elementary school. After the birth of her second child, she became a stay-at-home mother. Seeking a close knit community and a church where they could serve faithfully, Terri and her husband joined New Life First Baptist in the Spring of 2012. She served in VBS, Extended Care and in the infant Sunday School class before gradually moving into the role of Co-Children’s director. Terri has been married to Benjie for 12 years and they have three children: Ty (9), Rachael (7) and Alyssa (5).
